A one day workshop was organized by the regional youth authority in collaboration with Action aid yesterday to mark international day celebration and to launch the the Upper West regional chapter of Activista; a global connection of youth to fight a injustice in society. The day saw participants from almost all district in the Upper west region, people came from; Tumu, Jirapa, lawra, Lambusie and Was town itself. Participants were taking through the significance of international youth day and how the youth can benefit from this special day set aside, the youth was tasked to stand up and show leadership in the various districts they came from.
Mr. Tontie of Action Aid was also present for this celebration and the launch. In launching the upper west regional chapter of #Activista, he challenged the leadership for Activista Rasheed from Tumu, Lambert from Jirapa, Adalyne from Wa to hold regular meeting after the launch to create more awareness about the whole of Activista. After Activista was fully launched, participants were made to speak about how the body can take up the issue of Tax justice. coconutnews24 spoke to one of the organizers of the program, Mr. Rasheed Salifu from Tumu and he has this to say about the purpose of the workshop. He said the purpose of forming Activista in the Upper west region was to help in the national fight against Tax justice in Ghana, they think that if the issue of Tax justice is taken up seriously it can help the government to generate more revenue. Once more revenue is generated the government will have more space to do more things to the citizens, he said.
Sparking to one of the participants in the workshop, Madam Florence, she said the workshop was very helpful to her but also added that next time something like this was to be organized in the region they should reach out to more people within the region.
