Water they say is life, without water there will be no life, this and many reasons cause government's, corporate bodies and other individuals to invest heavily on water resources. In some countries water is such a scarce commodity that they struggle to get it unlike in Ghana where the situation is relatively better. In those countries, people sometimes will have to spend millions and millions to get water to drink not to talk of water for washing and other domestic purposes. In Ghana we spend less money or sometimes no money to enjoy this commodity.
That notwithstanding, in Ghana too as others get this commodity very easily others will have to travel long distance to access this commodity. The story of Kulfuo health center is no different from the many problems that face other institutions in the district.
Kulfuo is a community located in the Sissala East district of Upper West Region, it shares boundaries with Pieng from the North, Tarsor from the South, Sakai from the West and Nyanduanu from the East. It has a lot of government projects but coconutnews24 will like to focus on the only health center they have. This health center serve communities around it like Nyanduanu, Kroboi, Challa and others. They have one key problem and that is water accessibility for the workers and patients that use the facility. The center has a very beautiful and fine borehole at its center to serve the facility, but this borehole is not in good condition. Today coconutnews24 spoke to a staff at the health center by name Tijani Yaapie, he said for you to fetch water in that borehole you will have to pomp for more than 20 minutes before water comes out from the borehole, he said they go through hell to access water there and said they want to appeal to government, NGOs and concerned communities to help them convert this borehole into a mechanized tap for easy usage. He said they have made several appeals to some concerned community members but are yet to see something concrete done on that structure.
Out of curiosity, coconutnews24 tried to pomp the borehole to see the truth of what the worker had said and the story turned out to be true. We had to pump for more than 15 minutes before water could flow, therefore corroborating the story told by Mr Tijani Yaapie . The health center is appealing to the general public to help them mechanized their only borehole to help them fetch water early to go to work on time. The staff there are always reluctant to fetch water there first because for the first person, it is often an up hill task. The Kulfuo health center also needs means of transport for emergencies, expansion of the facility and many more.
